Idea: Magic comes from believing in something that doesn’t exist, together.
What: A five-day island summer camp for artists to collaborate and learn new skills.
Idea Camp on the Island is the joyous innocence of summer camp with the community of art school. We plunge into the sea, laugh under the stars, learn new skills, and participate in artmaking workshops designed to help us create in new ways. Most importantly, we connect with each other and ourselves to take home a piece of the magic that exists everywhere, when we choose to see it.
Travel: We will handle transport to and from the Vancouver Airport.
Accommodation: 5-night stay at the beautiful off-grid facility Cedar Coast, outside of Tofino, British Columbia. Choose between a shared or private tent. Tents are equipped with power, ensuite bathrooms, and wood stoves.
Workshops: A rich variety of art-making and creativity unlocking workshops will be held on the river. This includes place-based art making, discovering your artistic style, collaborating with other artists, & more. We play with a variety of mediums, and techniques from the workshops can be applied to any creative practice.
Activities: On Vargas Island we will hike to beaches, explore tide pools, do yoga, paddle on the sea, and enjoy the wood-fired sauna & cold plunge.

Our workshops are centered around unlocking creativity. There are no prerequisite skills required, and a lot of the work can apply to a variety of creative mediums. We do a lot of work around idea generation, understanding our intrinsic creativity and how to access it, and collaborative prompt based activities. Certain retreats include more skill-based workshops, which vary by location.

YES! Our retreats are open to creatives of all kinds - whether you used to have a regular art-making practice and haven’t touched it in years, have never made art but want to incorporate creativity into your life, or are just looking to try something new. If you are open, curious, and looking to walk through the world with more play, intention and creativity, you are a good fit.
-
While our workshops are more centered around creativity than business, a lot of previous attendees have found our retreats to be helpful when starting a creative business. Our retreats attract an array of professional creatives and the community element is invaluable. We have lots of attendees who come sharing advice, contract templates, and skills with each other! We are also happy to answer any business related questions.

Cedar Coast is fully off-grid, but it’s amazing facilities run and feel like the luxuries of home. Each tent has a flushing toilet, as well as electricity so you can charge your devices. Reliable wifi is available in the shared lodge. Tents are heated with a wood stove, and it is up to guests to maintain their fire throughout the day. There is a separate shower house with hot water, and local bathing products provided. (Sea Wench shampoo, conditioner, and body wash - it’s the best!)
Getting around the facility requires maneuvering rocky trails and stairs. If you have concerns about being able to stay at Cedar Coast, please reach out to us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
